Las Vegas Photographer | Pin Up !
I had a great time last Sunday, courtesy of B & C Camera and Canon! Together they put together a workshop on Pin Up Style photography lead by Riley Kern a photographer out of California who specializes in this style . The workshop took place in Nelson , NV. Most photographers from this area, including myself have done sessions at Nelson. Still, Nelson is a unique spot and one I always enjoy and for me it’s fun to work with and around a group of other photographers. There is always something that can be shared and something that can be learned. Though I don’t typically shoot Pin Up the workshop sounded fun and it was! Canon had various camera bodies and lenses available for folks to try out. They had set up one of the barns at Nelson as a “classroom”, complete with flat screens. The models, Genevieve, Lisa and Kiera, were great and though I only took a few shots with the various lighting set ups, (mainly going with the gorgeous available light), it was still a good learning experience. B & C and Canon couldn’t have been more accommodating, they transported us out to Nelson in 2 luxury style buses ( definitely my most relaxing trip to Nelson, ever!) We left from B & C’s new Tropicana , eastside location. Once we arrived, Riley Kern gave us an overview of Pin Up Style photography its origins and history, the term Pin Up dates back to 1941. Her presentation included showing work of some of the drawings and illustrations that help popularize the genre, as well as some classic Pin Up photography portraits, one of the most famous being, Betty Grable. What soldier from that era wouldn’t get dreamy eyed just recalling those classic Betty Grable shots! Riley also shared some of her work and reviewed the various lighting set ups she uses. Oh, did I mention that B & C and Canon also provided lunch (even veggie options were available!), anyone who gives me a great learning experience AND feeds me, makes me very happy. They also had Canon printers set up so you could print one or two of your photographs, beautiful 13 x 19 prints.
But of course the focus (no pun intended!!) of the day was all about creating images, here are some of mine.
Doesn’t the sun make the best hair light, I think so !
Once again “Thank You” to B & C and Canon and their staff members, also to Riley Kern and our beautiful and fun models !! I look forward to the next time!! Links: Riley Kern You can check out some of her Pin Up work here
big hugs, Wendy
